Here’s your chance to be a poet! We are partnering with our friends at O,Miami to surprise and delight cookie customers during the 2023 Cookie Season with short poems by Girl Scouts. The poems are all about what joy is and Girl Scouting. We will select the top poems and turn them into stickers to place on cookie boxes during the upcoming cookie sale in January and February as a way to sprinkle joy throughout the community ahead of O,Miami’s annual month-long poetry festival in April.
Read the writing prompts below and submit your poems by November 30, 2022. We will announce the selected poems in December.
Joy Is ... Writing Prompt
What is joy? What makes you feel joyful? People, places, activities, foods—so many things can bring us joy!
First THINK about your feelings:
What are you joyful for?
How do you feel in joyful moments?
Who are people that bring you joy?
How do you bring joy to others?
Now WRITE:
Write your own poem about joy. Write about all the things that bring you
joy. Remember to use specific sensory details. You can even try using similes or
metaphors.
Example Poems:
Joy is camping under stars at Camp Mahachee.
Joy is a friend when I need her.
Joy is making friends at Girl Scout Summer Camp.
Joy is a good book from the start.
Joy is learning something new and earning a patch.
