Meet Savannah S., a Girl Scout in Troop 1832 and GSTF’s 2023 top cookie seller.
Editor's Note: This Q&A originally ran in The New Tropic.
Hi Savannah, what level of Girl Scouting are you in and what neighborhood do you call home?
I’m a Senior level Girl Scout in Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida Troop 1832 and my neighborhood is The Falls.
How did you sell 4,360 boxes to become last year’s Top Cookie Seller?
First, I took advantage of the Girl Scout Cookie pre-sale season. That’s where I reach out to past customers and get them excited about the upcoming cookie season. Once booth sales opened up, I made sure to sign up for as many open booths as were available. I gave up many weekends to stand in front of many Publixes alongside my grandparents and parents to reach my goal. I was determined.
One box at a time, with a smile on my face, I managed to surpass my original 4,300 box goal. The key was persistence and commitment to my goal. Even on nights when only 24 boxes were sold, I would say to myself, “That’s 24 more boxes to get me closer to my goal.”
What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie?
Thin Mints
What’s your favorite Girl Scout memory?
Taking a trip that was fully fundraised using cookie money with my troop to Savannah, GA, where we visited all the major historical Girl Scout sites. We began our trip at the Girl Scout Birthplace and even left our mark with a brick at the National Headquarters.
What’s your favorite thing to do with your troop?
To meet up for our bi-weekly meetings and enjoy our time together while working on badges.
What’s your favorite local Instagram or TikTok account and why?
My high school's Instagram account because I like to stay connected to everything that is happening on campus. I don’t like TikTok.
If you could eat only one meal from a local restaurant for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would order the bolognese fettuccine pasta and margarita pizza from Pulcinella Pizzeria! It’s a must. What a hidden gem!
Outside of the obvious stop above, share your other top three destinations for where you’d go on your perfect Miami day.
I would stay at the JW Marriott Turnberry Isle and enjoy a day at Tidal Cove waterpark with my friends and end the day off by shopping and dining at Aventura Mall.
If there was one thing you could do to make Miami a better place to live, what would it be?
I would encourage citizens to join me in taking part in the many cleanups around Miami to help solve the issue of environmental pollution so that future generations can experience a clean and thriving Miami.
What’s a project you’re working on and how can our readers help you with it?
I’m currently participating in the 2024 Cookie Season as well as preparing for the Girl Scout Gold Award. The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout can earn. Readers can help by purchasing a box or case of Girl Scout cookies directly from my Digital Cookie site. The proceeds will assist in funding my Gold Award!
What are you looking forward to this year?
I’m looking forward to getting the first step of my Gold Award approved!
