Girl Scouts Love State Parks (All)
Come join us as we show our love for Bill Baggs State Park. We’ll have some fun learning how to help our beaches and work toward earning our Girl Scouts Love State Parks patch. This event is free.
8:00 am: Nature walk/ Bird banding stop – take a walk along the nature trail and a member from the bird banding group will come out and talk about the migrating birds and their efforts to band/tag them for research, they will also bring out any birds they are currently banding to show to the group.
9:00 am: Beach cleanup – Bill Baggs have sand sifters that were made by a girl scout group that can be used to get microplastics, we’ll have buckets, pickers, and gloves.
10:00 am: Morning Lighthouse Tour – a Ranger or Volunteer will meet at the entrance of the gated area and give some history of the park, and the lighthouse, including its attack during the Second Seminole War and why it was designated as a spot along the Underground Railroad.
11:00 am: Friends Of Cape Florida table – pending availability of volunteers, there will be materials set up for the Girl Scouts Love Outdoors Challenge (writing a poem/thank you note, lead some meditation, quiet time, etc.) and distribute Junior Ranger packets.
12:00 pm: Junior Ranger meeting – Rangers can lead the group for the Junior Ranger Pledge and induct all interested scouts into our Junior Ranger Program, packets consist of activities, pledge cards, and a badge.
