General Information Please register at least 5 days prior to the course. If a problem arrises and you need to cancel your course reservation, please do so as soon as you know.Any fees charged for trainings are used to cover the cost of food, printed materials, consultants, certifications, and/or supplies. Registrations are processed on a first-paid, first-in basis. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the course so that it may begin on time. Remember to dress for the weather and be prepared for air-conditioned rooms while attending courses. Childcare is not available. Remember to bring your leader’s guide, Safety-Wise, Council Policies & Standards, Leader’s Digest and related materials to trainings. Pre-requisites for course (where indicated) need to be completed. With a group of 6 or more, special course may be scheduled, if possible. Please send in your request on a registration form or call the Adult Development Director to be placed on a waiting list. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Orientation for New Leaders (Required for new leaders and assistant leaders.) Introduces volunteers to the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida and GSUSA structures, Safety-Wise and troop forms. New leaders contact Service Unit managers (or Membership Marketing Specialist) to schedule Orientation and to receive troop forms. Orientation for New Leaders is required before Basic Leader Training. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Basic Leader On-line - http://training.girlscouts.org An on-line version of the Basic Orientation Module: Training for Adults Who Work with Girls is available to all, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Module covers basic information about Juliette Low, the Promise and Law, the Four Program Goals, the girl/adult partnership, safety, and pluralism. This module is designed to support, not replace, the council delivery system. Call 305.253.4841, ext 244, for the current password. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Age Levels - Daisy, Brownie, or Junior (Pre-Requisite: Basic Leader) For new leaders and transitioning leader. Learn Age Level characteristics, troop government styles for effective girl/adult planning, effective use of handbooks, recognitions, Issues for Girls and safety. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ First Aid & CPR Training (American Red Cross Health & Safety Courses) The term "first-aider" used in Girl Scouting is defined as an adult who has taken Girl Scout council approved first-aid and CPR training. Refer to Safety-Wise for approved organizations. The CPR training must be adequate for the participants in the activity covered by the first-aider: for example, child CPR for children younger than eight and adult CPR for older girls and adults. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Planning Trips / Trips Etiquette A required course for troop leadership planning day trips and/or non-camping overnight excursions. Also suggested prior to Basic Troop camping and a pre-requisite for Planning International (Extended) trips curse. Take Safety-Wise. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Basic Troop Camping (Recommended: Planning Trips/Travel Etiquette, which is Planning & overnight sessions required for Troop Camping: refer to Council Policies & Standards and Safety-Wise. For overnight session, plan for up to $25.00 for your food and supplies, and take sleeping bag or bedroll, eating and drinking utensils, appropriate clothing, Safety-Wise book, Outdoor Education in Girl Scouting book and bandana. Other suggested Girl Scout resources are Fun and Easy nature and Science Investigations, Earth Matters and songbooks. * Camping applications will be approved only when camp-trained adult completes both Planning Trips/Travel Etiquette and Basic Troop Camping trainings. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Planning International (Extended) Trips (hands-on trip) (Prerequisite: Planning For trips/groups planning trips beyond the USA. Refer to Council Policies and Standards, p.6. Required for international travel. Contact Sharon Krutulis, to be placed on waiting list. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Trip/Travel Camping (Prerequisite: Planning Trips & Travel Etiquette, Basic Troop Camping, and camping experience) A new course which is required for troops travel camping for 3 or more nights at different sites. Refer to Safety-Wise, pp. 114-117. Contact Sharon Krutulis, to schedule a course. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Lifeguard Training (American Red Cross Health & Safety) Learn lifesaving techniques, using rescue tubes and facemasks. Course fee includes textbook, facemask, and two certifications - Lifeguard Today and Professional Rescuer CPR. Take swimsuit and towel.
