Maria D. Tejera – Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
October 7, 2011 – Miami, Fla. – The Boy Scouts of America South Florida Council recognized Maria D. Tejera, Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida, with the Lifetime Achievement Award at a luncheon at Coral Gables Country Club.
Ms. Tejera joined the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida, Inc. 29 years ago after arriving in Miami in 1982 with her family from El Paso, Texas where she had served the YWCA for seven years in executive capacities. In her present position as CEO, Maria provides leadership, strategic direction and vision for the development and achievement of the organization’s mission in partnership with the council’s Board of Directors. Maria ensures the council’s relevance in the community and with the national organization to position Girl Scouts as a premier voice for girls.
Maria is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Commonwealth Institute, and the Miami-Dade Anti-Gang Coalition at the request of Miami-Dade County State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez-Rundle.
Her involvement with Girl Scouts of the USA include: Member of the Core Business Strategy; Campaign Coordinating Group for the 100th Anniversary Campaign Plan; Council Coordinator for the National Council Session in Miami, Florida; Council Delegate to the National Council Session; Presenter for the Girl Scouts Executive Directors’ Meeting in Baltimore, MD; and Member of the Executive Directors’ Accreditation Committee.
