MIAMI - (May 19, 2011) The Miami Access Tunnel (MAT) and the Florida Department of Transportation District Six in partnership with the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida, Inc. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) program coordinated a contest to name the Tunnel Boring Machine, which is digging the Port of Miami Tunnel. It is bigger than a four story building and longer than a football field. The winning Troops, 30, 134 and 1191 elected to name the machine "Harriet," in honor of Harriet Tubman. The winning girls all received iPod Nanos. Harriet is the first of its kind to be used in South Florida. It arrived in Miami by boat from Germany.
